Two young Dumbarton bowlers in international calls

TWO of Dumbarton’s young indoor bowlers will be in international action next month.

Graeme Sloan will be involved in the World Under-25 Championship in Wales, while Richard O’Malley will be playing for Scotland under-18s at Stanley IBC in County Durham.

The prestige of Richard’s cap call is added to by the fact that he will be skip of the pairs team, and also the rinks.

lDUMBARTON and District Indoor Bowling Club’s senior team kicked off the new season of Saturday inter-club leagues with a home fixture against Ardrossan IBC.

They made a disastrous start, losing 16 shots across the board on the very first end and, despite a fightback of sorts, they were eventually beaten 64-51.

Individual rink scores (Dumbarton skips first):

Stewart Shields 7, B Sidebottom 18; John Gillies 14, W Dunlop 17; George Lunan 11, D McEwan 16; Stewart A Banks 19, B McFadden 13.

Next Saturday the Dumbarton team are away to Paisley IBC.

The ladies’ team were due to start their campaign away to Cowal this weekend but their opponents have withdrawn from the league.

The gents will travel to Ayrshire to play Ardrossan IBC on Saturday, looking to avenge the seniors’ defeat.
