No national bowls finals for Dumbarton trio

THE district finals for the Two Bowl Triples competition was held at Cardross BC last Sunday.

Representing their clubs were:

Radnor Park: May McEwan, Margaret Strattan and Betty Donaghy

Dumbarton: Jade Allan, Michelle Keenan and Rita Murray

In the first set Radnor Park won by 11 shots to 9, but Dumbarton took the second set 11-3. This took the game into a three-end tie break which Radnor Park won by six shots to two.

They now go forward to the National Finals to be held at Bainfield BC, Edinburgh on the weekend of August 8 and 9.

Dumbartonshire Bowling Association County Cup

THE County Cup competition took place last Saturday with 30 clubs taking part.

Each club had four rinks playing on greens throughout the county area.

After a keen and exciting afternoon’s bowling the final results were extremely close with Dumbarton BC taking the honours by three shots from Singer 1980 BC and Milngavie BC.

This was Dumbarton BC's first win in the competition since 1984. Two survivors from that win played in Saturday’s competition, namely Past President James F. Miller and Past President Stewart A Banks.

When informed of this historic win, Club President Michael Keenan congratulated the players on their victory.

Full results: Dumbarton BC 30, Westermains No 1 15; Dumbarton BC 26, Cardross No 2 19; Dumbarton BC 22, Yoker No 3 17; Dumbarton BC 23, Dixon No 1 12. This gave Dumbarton a winning total of eight points plus 38 shots.

Singer 1980 B.C. and Milngavie B.C. shared second place both with eight points plus 35 shots, while Clydebank BC were fourth with eight points plus 34 shots.

County Championship Finals

THE 99th Annual County Championship finals took place at Dalmuir BC last Sunday, which each game being keenly contested.

Full results were:

Singles: Alan McDaid (Yoker) 12; Ian McDonald (Helensburgh) 21

Junior Singles: Gavin Ansari (Lenzie) 21; Richard O'Malley (Renton) 6

Pairs: Robert McLachlan, Raymond Hay (Radnor Park) 7; George Sneddon, Keith Tait (Helensburgh) 15

Triples: Graham Rintoul, Donald Hall, David Murray (Kirkintilloch) 8; Ian McKenzie, Bill Harvey, John McBride (Colgrain) 19

Fours: Neil Beck, William Greig, William Wylie, Thomas McGrath (Singer 1980) 16, Peter McGeorge, Donald Jenkinson, Cameron Vallance, Brian Barnes (Eastfield) 15 (after an extra end)

Senior Fours: Allan Gemmell, Pat Godfrey, Robin Gaul, Robbie McRobbie (Garelochhead) w/o
