Indoor bowling: Two Dumbarton teams make it through to the finals

WITH the final round of games last Saturday in the Glasgow and District Indoor Leagues, hopes were high that both Dumbarton IBC’s gents and ladies teams could qualify for the latter stages.

Whiteinch were the opponents for all the teams, including the senior gents, and it was the ladies side which produced the best result in these local derbies.

The scores were: Home – Margaret Shields 15, Audrey Cameron 15; Margaret Stickings 25, Ellen Kidd 8. Away - Mary Morrison 17, Margaret Rattray 9; Annette Chrisitie 14, Lorna Cameron 18

Dumbarton earned nine points and Whiteinch three, giving the ladies a final tally of 31 points out of 36 to put top of their section and comfortably qualifying for the playoffs.

It was a far tenser day for the gents, who actually lost their tie against Whiteinch

Scores: Home – Graeme Sloan 12, K Bain 22; Stewart A Banks 14, S Sloan 12. Away – Kevin Anderson 11, P Murray 25; Brian Neeson 20, A Glencross 11

That meant Dumbarton collected just four points to Whiteinch’s eight, giving the gents a final total of 23 points. However, when the calculations had been completed some time later, that proved to be enough to for them to top the section and qualify for the playoffs as well.

And to complete a good day for the club, the Senior Gents had an emphatic win as well.

Scores: Home – Robert Kennedy 15, G Kennedy 12; Jim Marsland 15, H Murray 13. Away – Robert Carmouche 10, C Bell 16; Stewart Shields 27, G Bruce 8

That gave Dumbarton and District 10 points and Whiteinch two points, and they finished up with 20 points in total which put them in second place in the section.

The semi finals of the Seniors Championships took place last weekend with the following results:

Sr Singles: Dumbarton 14, Blantyre 21; Coatbridge 21, Clydebank 10. Sr Pairs: Cumbernauld 18, Blantyre 11; Clydebank 2, Coatbridge 27. Sr Triples: Coatbridge 14, Whiteinch 16; Allander 17, Cumbernauld 14 (after an extra end). Sr Fours: Blantyre beat Whiteinch; Coatbridge beat Cumbernauld

All the winners of the above ties now go forward to the Glasgow and District finals at Whiteinch IBC on Sunday, April 5.
