Indoor bowling: Good day for Dumbarton teams

ON Saturday Dumbarton were up against Allander in the Glasgow and District leagues, with two rinks at home and two away.

The ladies had a good day, winning on all four rinks. Scores were Catherine Russell 24-8, Annette Chrstie 31-4, Jackie Waltham 19-10 and Mary Morrison 18-17. That gave Dumbarton eight points, plus four bonus points, making the result 12-0.

The gents at home were Stuart Banks 19-20 and Scott Hardie 17-17, resulting in a 5-1 loss at home. The away teams fared better, with Brian Neeson scoring 25-11 and Kevin Anderson 25-14, making it 6-0 in favour of Dumbarton’s away side. That meant an overall win of 7-5.

Away from home, the seniors were a mixed bag, with Willie Patterson winning 18-8, but Robert Kennedy going down 7-21, which meant losing the bonus points and making the away result 4-2.

At home it was a better result, with Jim Marsland winning 19-14 and Bobby Carmouche 17-16, to earn four points plus two bonus points. That gave the home team a 6-0 win and made the seniors’ overall result 8-4 in Dumbarton’s favour.

SUNDAY saw the gents’ senior knockouts, with Bobby Carmouche playing in the singles at Whiteinch against West of Scotland. He won by 21-15 and plays his next round at Coatbridge on Sunday, March 22.

The pairs were contested by George Murphy and George Tait at Coatbridge against Blantyre, who were beaten.

The triples were played by Eddy Shovelin, Willie Patterson and Robert Kennedy at Clydebank against Coatbridge, who won 20-12.

The fours were Dougie Wallace, Ken Ritchie, Alex McDougall and John Wood, who went down, also by 20-12.

THE ladies are well ahead with their Indoor Scottish Knockout ties. The singles final is between Rita Murray and Annette Christie, with the pairs final contested by Jean Bell and Annette Christie.

The triples semis are Rita Murray v Ann Jardine and Margaret Strachan v Margaret Stickings, while Margaret Stickings is also in the fours final, with Mary Morrison playing Annette Christie in the other semi.

For the gents, the singles is the only one through, with Jim Anderson in the semi final. The other quarter finals are Scott Hardie v Keith Tait, David McCarry v John McCarry and Kenny Paton v Michael Connolly Sr.

In the seniors, the singles semis are Robert Kennedy v Willie Patterson and Robert Mills v Stewart Shields.

The pairs semis are John Baird and George Murphy v Willie Patterson and John Gillies; and Ian MacLeod and Hugh Murray v Stewart Shields and Robert Kennedy.

THE junior top ten team of Emma McIntyre (singles), Dylon Whitefield and Paul Kane (pairs), Colin McIntyre, Sara Anderson and Richard O’Malley (triples) and Chris Mair, Rhys Williams, Tom Allan and Alan Air (fours) were at Cumbernauld.

They lost their semi-final against eventual winners Blantyre, but won the third place playoff.

AND in the Richard Corsie under-18s event, Kevin Anderson won through his section and now plays in the last 16 Scottish finals at Dundee on Friday, April 17.
