Indoor bowling: Dumbarton junior section hosted Prestwick

LAST Saturday the junior section of Dumbarton IBC were host to Prestwick in the second round of the SYIBA Top Ten for the Thomas Taylor Trophy.

The games were played in a very competitive and friendly spirit with Dumbarton running out winners by four points and 58 shots to Prestwick's four points and 51 shots.

This was a wonderful result for the team and they will go on to the semi finals and finals being held next month.

DUMBARTON Ladies travelled to Whiteinch IBC last Saturday to face Coatbridge in the league playdown.

The Coatbridge ladies took the lead, settling at once to the weight of the carpet. The Dumbarton ladies tried to keep the scoring close but Coatbridge, the much stronger team, had a convincing win, 103-59.

Singles: Emma McIntyre 21; Gillian Cobbledick 16; Pairs: Dyllon Whitefield and Paul Kane 26; Andrew Weir and Craig Cathie 6; Triples: Colin McIntyre, Sarah Anderson and Richard O’Malley 4, Daren Weir, David Graham and Daniel Wallace 13; Fours: Christopher Mair, Rhys Williams, Tom Allan and Alan Air 7; Lyndsay Brown, Nicola Graham, Jordan Slaven and Amy Brown 16.

On Sunday morning, Dumbarton hosted the Scottish Young Indoor Bowling Association Pairs and Triples area playdowns.

Dumbarton was represented by Emma McInytre and Paul Kane Jr in the pairs and by Tom Allan, Keiran Ward and Alan Air in the triples.

Emma and Paul won both their games to finish with 4 points and +16 shots. Tom, Keiran and Allan won their first game but sadly lost their second game to finish with two points and no shots.

At the conclusion of the competition Dumbarton qualified in the pairs while Inverclyde got through in the triples.

The final stages of the competition will take place at Lanarkshire IBC in Wishaw on Sunday, March 15.

THE Glasgow and District knockout championships started last Sunday with the gents singles, under 25 singles, gents pairs, gents triples and gents fours.

Results: Gents Singles: Dumbarton (Brian Neeson) 21, Blantyre 9; Coatbridge Scr, West of Scotland w/o; Cumbernauld 13, Allander 21; Whiteinch 12, Clydebank 21.

Under 25 Singles: Allander Scr, Blantyre w/o; Whiteinch 21, Coatbridge 13; Dumbarton (Michael Connolly Jr) 11, Cumbernauld 21.

Pairs: Cumbernauld 18, Blantyre 19; West of Scotland 14, Coatbridge 17; Allander 23, Clydebank 16; Whiteinch 20, Dumbarton (John McCarry and George Sneddon) 23.

Triples: Blantyre Scr, Coatbridge w/o; Clydebank 21, Allander 19; Whiteinch 17, Dumbarton (John Robertson, Jim Carruthers and Hamish Whyte) 13.

Fours: West of Scotland 20, Clydebank 16; Cumbernauld 8, Whiteinch 21; Coatbridge 19, Blantyre 10; Dumbarton (Robert Sloan Jr, Robert Sloan, Graeme Sloan and Kenny Paton) 23, Allander 19.

All the winners go forward to the semi-final stages to be played on Sunday, March 8.
