Dumbarton Indoor senior gents team picks up good results

DUMBARTON Indoor’s senior gents team were involved in a preliminary round tie in the Scottish Cup last week against Clydebank IBC at Whiteinch IBC.

Clydebank made the better start to the game and established an early lead which proved to be short-livedhowever, with Dumbarton thereafter taking control of the game and establishing an unassailable lead.

They went on to win the game comfortably 75-44. Individual rink scores (Dumbarton skips first): Robert Kennedy 14, Peter Mason 12; Stewart A Banks 24, George Creran 8; David Cole 9, Jim Cunningham 12; Jim Marsland 18, Thomas P Winter 12.

Next Wednesday the Dumbarton team play in the first round proper against Coatbridge IBC, the game being played at West of Scotland IBC.

THE club was represented by Graeme Sloan, Jim Carruthers (substituting for Robert Sloan Jr) and Kenny Paton in the national triples tournament.

They were drawn to play at Lanarkshire IBC against Galleon IBC in the preliminary round, and that proved to be a comfortable game for the local team and they ran out worthy winners by 20-7.

In the afternoon they were drawn to play against Ardrossan IBC. This turned out to be a very close and exciting encounter; with two ends left to play the Dumbarton team were three shots down.

A count of four on the second last end put them one ahead going to the last end. Hard as they tried on the last end, they had to concede one shot and the game went into an extra end.

There, the shot changed hands but eventually Ardrossan got the winning shot to edge home 15-14. Ardrossan went on to qualify for the semi finals.

Meanwhile, in the ladies’ national triples, the club was represented by Pat Conway, Jean Bell and Mary Morrison. In the preliminary round they were drawn against Irvine IBC in a match played at Glasgow IBC.

The ladies had a comfortable win in this their first game. They didn’t have to play the last two ends. Their final score was a win by 26-6.

In the afternoon’s first round they faced Ayr IBC. Once again the ladies played well and ran out comfortable winners 21-9.

Returning to Glasgow IBC on Sunday morning the ladies took to the greens against East Fife IBC. The game turned out to be a very close one with the result in doubt up until the last end.

Unfortunately for the local ladies, they were unable to score the required shots to win the game and went down narrowly by 16-14.

This was a fine effort by the three ladies. East Fife went on to qualify for the semi finals.
