DUMBARTON’S IBC Senior Gents were at home to Cowal last Saturday looking to keep up their 100 per cent home record.
The home team got off to a flying start and, after only a few ends, had opened up a healthy lead. They held this lead up until the halfway point when Cowal fought back.
With only a few ends to go, Cowal took a five-shot lead, but over the closing two ends the local team fought back, picking up vital shots to run out worthy winners 63-59.
Individual rink scores, Dumbarton skips first – Robert Kennedy16 D. Rose 16; David Cole 14 K. Blincow 12; Jim Marsland 8 S. Storie 20; Stewart Shields 25 D. McClure 11
Next Saturday the seniors play host to Ayr IBC.
Meanwhile, the gents played only their second game last Saturday when they travelled to Dunoon to play Cowal.
The game was fairly even throughout. As it progressed, however, the visitors moved up a gear and went on to win comfortably 87-69.
Individual rink scores, Dumbarton skips first – Stewart A. Banks 22 Steve Scott 21; Keith Tait 32 Peter Pullen 9; Kenny Paton 19 Andy Scott 21; Brian Neeson 14 George Annan 18
Next Saturday the gents have an away fixture against Allander IBC.
The ladies had no league fixture last week due to the National under-25 Ladies singles being played. Next week they play host to Glasgow.
BOTH gents and ladies under-25 competitions were held at Cumbernauld IBC last Saturday. Representing Dumbarton & District for the ladies was Michelle Keenan and, for the gents, Graeme Sloan.
Michelle played against an opponent from Falkirk, who took an early lead. Michelle eventually found the pace of the green and was more confident in her bowling, but still trailing. She fought back welll, but had left it too late and lost 21-14. This was good experience for Michelle.
On Sunday Michelle travelled to Falkirk IBC to take part in a trial for the Under-25 national team. This was her first indoor trial and during the game she gave a good account of herself securing a place in the team which travels to Ireland on January 17 and 18 to take part in the internationals.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Michelle, who is the first lady internationalist Dumbarton & District IBC has produced.
In the gents competition, Graeme had the misfortune to meet the holder and world champion, Stewart Anderson. Stewart has already qualified for the semi-finals in the gents national singles and played an exceptional game against Graeme who went down 21-4.
