MEANWHILE indoors, the Senior Gents team was at home to East Kilbride.

After their fine performance last week in defeating Lanarkshire, the seniors were looking forward to facing East Kilbride.

The game turned out to be a close encounter with the lead continually changing hands, but the home team produced the stronger finish and scored vital shots across the board to run out worthy winners by 68-54. Individual rink scores (Dumbarton skips first):

Stewart Shields 16, T Crawford 11; David Cole 20, T Taylor 9; Robert Kennedy 13, G Smith 22; Jim Marsland 19, J Miller 12

Next Saturday the senior gents travel down the Ayrshire coast to play league leaders Ardrossan.

THE local ladies played host to their near neighbours from Whiteinch on Saturday. The visitors took an early lead but never managed to hang on to it.

The game was close and went to the wire, with Dumbarton scoring late across the board to win by 12 shots, 83-71. This was another good win for the local team. Individual rink scores, Dumbarton skips first

Mary Morrison 13, Nancy Martin 22; Annette Christie 23, Liz Brown 17; Margaret Stickings 22, Audrey Cameron 19; Rita Murray 25, Ellen Kidd 13

Next Saturday the ladies travel to West of Scotland IBC where, like the seniors, they will face the league leaders.

THE National Gents two- bowl pairs competition was played at various venues throughout the country last weekend.

Dumbarton and District IBC. were represented by John McCarry and Stewart Shields who were drawn to play against Whiteinch IBC at Lanarkshire.

This was always going to be a hard game for the local pair as they were pitted against the former national singles champion in Stuart Sloan and his partner Allan Bell.

Although the local pair played well throughout the game the Whiteinch duo were too strong and ran out worthy winners by two sets to nil. (7-5, 7-2).

The Ladies two-bowl pairs was also staged at various venues throughout Scotland last weekend, and the local representatives were Ann Jardine and Mary Morrison who were drawn to play against Clydebank IBC, represented by Ann Milne and Margaret Weir.

The game was played at Coatbridge IBC and went to three sets, both teams having won a set each. In the deciding set, the Dumbarton duo proved the stronger to win the tie by two sets to one.

In the next round their opponents were West of Scotland, represented by Helen McGregor and Ena Lawrie. Unfortunately they proved too strong for the local girls and won in two straight sets.
