DUMBARTON IBC ladies travelled to Allander IBC on Saturday to take part in their first interclub league match of the new season.
Allander took an early lead while the Dumbarton girls came to terms with a much faster carpet, but they quietly found the pace and proceeded to overtake their hosts and eventually take command of the game.
The locals tried to fight back but Dumbarton were having none of it, and a much stronger team took all four games to win 102-70.
This was a superb display by the Dumbarton ladies which, hopefully, will continue throughout the season.
Individual rink scores (Dumbarton skips first): Annette Christie 33, Joyce Scott 14; Rita Murray 19, Ena Roberts 18; Margaret Stickings 28, Christine Kennedy 18; Margaret Shields 22, Helen Currie 20.
Next Saturday the ladies have a home fixture against Whiteinch IBC.
AFTER a disappointing result last week, the seniors were looking for a better performance against old rivals Lanarkshire at Wishaw. In the past, this has always been a keenly fought game with the results being close on every occasion.
The visitors made the better start and opened up an early lead. As the game progressed the scores fluctuated one way and then the other with the result always in doubt.
However, Dumbarton finished the stronger, and ran out worthy winners 61-55. Individual rink scores (Dumbarton skips first): Robert Kennedy 15, J Watson 19; David Cole 17, T Rowley 10; Stewart Shields 12, J Keating 10; Jim Marsland 17, A Milligan 16.
This was a good away win for the Dumbarton team and they can look forward to next week’s home game against East Kilbride IBC with confidence.
Around the Greens
ONCE again, due to inclement weather the China Cup competition last Saturday was cancelled. There will be no further efforts made to play what would have been the last inter-club event this season.
As a result of the cancellation, Rock BC will be this season’s silver salver winners.
ARGYLE BC held a Khaki and Pink Day on Sunday and many of the members from local clubs took part. The organisers of the event were Michelle Faichney and Lorna McCarthy, who were helped by members and local clubs and businesses.
Having two full sections of players and good weather, the day was a complete success as everyone taking part enjoyed Argyle's hospitality.
Due to this more than £2000 was raised, and this will be divided between Cancer Research and Erskine Hospital. This was a superb effort by all.
