MANY local bowling clubs have run open tournaments now that the new season is in full swing.
Last weekend both Rock BC and Eastfield BC hosted their first open tournaments of the new season.
At Rock BC, the Chambers Glaziers Open Gents Pairs saw 24 teams from throughout the district taking part in the aforementioned tournament, kindly sponsored by Chambers Glaziers through club member Robert Collins.
After the sectional games, the following pairs, all members of the home club, qualified for the semi-finals: Gary Brown and Jim Carruthers; David Hislop and Hamish Whyte; Richard Beattie and Stan McDonald; Ian Marshall and Derek Allan.
In the first semi-final, Hamish and David won a close contest against Gary and Jim by 5-4.
In the second semi, Richard and Stan whitewashed Ian and Derek 8-0.
In the final, Richard and Stan were four shots up going into the last end against David and Hamish, but the latter pair scored five shots on the last end to win the tournament in spectacular fashion.
Thanks were given to both the caterer and the sponsors for their support of the event.
At the Eastfield club, the Alger Electrics Open Gents Triples, under the auspices of club member Gerry Devoy, proved a popular attraction.
The tournament saw 17 teams lining up for the start, in the tournament kindly sponsored by local electrical firm Alger Electrics.
Once the sectional games were completed the two semi-finals took place, and they, intriguingly, produced a father versus son battle in the final.
In the end it was to be father's day, with victory going to Malky McIntyre, Alister W Rae and John Hardie against Scott Hardie's team.
Gerry Devoy presented the prizes to the winning team on behalf of the sponsors. He in turn was thanked for his continued support.
l THE presentation of prizes at Dumbarton and District Indoor Club will be held this Friday at 7.30pm.
Members are also reminded that fees can be paid at the stadium between 10am and 2pm.
