Clydesdale Harriers record good times in Wanacott event

FIVE Clydesdale Harriers were running in the Richie Wanacott five- and nine-mile races on Sunday.

The five-mile race is an out-and- back run on Ministry of Defence land at Garelochhead following a tarmac single track road with a lot of hills.

The nine-miler follows the same route to begin with, but veers off good surfaces for four miles to follow a rough woodland track.

Christine Duncanson was the first Harrier home and also second lady overall, running 39.42. A few minutes back was Colin Gray, running 45.20.

Pamela McCrossan ran an impressive 66.50 in the nine-mile race and was winner of first lady prize. This was followed by Marina McCallum a little further back in 76.16 and winner of second lady prize. Peter Rudzinski was only seconds behind Marina, crossing the line in 76.27.

On Saturday, the Harriers fielded a men’s team in the George Cummings Relay at Houston. Each leg was approximately 2.5 miles on an extremely hilly course. The team ran the following times: Derek Halpin (16.12), John Foley (15.44), John McArthur (15.25) and Bobby Young (17.01) finishing well up on the field.

Next races for the Harriers are more relays: The McAndrew Relays (Jordanhill – October 4), The West District Cross Country Relays (Irvine – October 11), DAAA Cross Country (Dumbarton – October 18) and the National County Cross Country Relays (Cumbernauld – October 25).
