Hockey: Loch Lomond defeat Greenock

LOCH Lomond started this game in determined fashion and kept the pressure on the league leaders with this win.

From the outset, the visitors pressed for goal and the Greenock keeper was forced to make a number of saves.

Midway through the first half, Rosie McColgan stopped the ball and passed to Holly Reid, who managed to force the ball over the line for the only goal of the match.

Loch Lomond kept up the pressure and another cracking shot by McColgan, which seemed destined for goal, struck her own centre forward, Jenny Cuthbertson, on the ankle, and she ended up having to be carried off the pitch as a result.

The second half was a slightly different affair, with the home side beginning to press forward and make the Loch Lomond defence work a little harder.

Having such a slim lead made this period of the game a little edgy for Loch Lomond, and despite having a lot of the ball in the Greenock D, no other goals were added to the tally.

This was a good result for Loch Lomond, who had a number of regular players missing, and all credit to the youngsters who stepped in to help on the day. A big thank you also to Martin Robertson for umpiring all the games this season once again.

Player of the match was Annie Carroll and runner-up was Rosie McColgan.

Loch Lomond are looking for new players of all ages to join them so that they can enter a second team in the league next season.

They are particularly keen to recruit a goalie for the team.

Any interested players should pop along to training on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Ardencaple, Helensburgh.
