Red carpet primary stars
BUDDING film-makers at a Dumbarton primary got their chance to grace the red carpet recently when the school held an Oscars night.
The children of Aitkenbar Primary who have been behind and in front of the lens for the past couple of months perfecting their masterpieces saw their hard work shown to loved ones, fellow pupils and staff last week.
And the red carpet was unfurled to welcome the stars, producers, writers and directors from primary six at Aitkenbar.
Mums and dads came along to enjoy the silver screen action, donning kilts and glamorous dresses for the occasion.
The whole project came about after a mystery package was sent to the school.
Head teacher Lesley Robertson said: “A package arrived at the school from America but the children didn’t know what was in the package.
“It turned out to be a teddy bear. The bear was called Buddy and it had a letter requesting he would be made into a film star.
“The children took on the project and they did everything from scriptwriting to filming. They made up storyboards and each group had a producer, director and writer.”
After all of the hard work, the films were shown at the school last Monday night to an invited audience of parents.
Lesley continued: “On the night we had a red carpet and invited parents along to watch the films. Each group introduced their film and then at the end, the audience voted for their favourite.
“It was absolutely wonderful. There was a lot of skills used to make the films.”
At the end of the night, ‘Oscars’ were given out for various categories, including most exciting script and best humour scene.
The overall winning team was Lights, Camera, Action consisting of Keighleigh Lambert, Craig Duff, Duncan McFarlane and Kirsty Oliver with their film Welcome to the Jungle.
