School makes sum great progress at their maths
PUPILS at Levenvale Primary are sum-thing else when it comes to maths.
Youngsters at the Alexandria school are making “very good” progress in mathematics, according to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education.
The school was previously tasked with raising attainment levels in maths because early gains made by some children were not maintained as they progressed through the school.
But inspectors who visited the school in March recently published a report, which states: “Within a short period of time, children are now making very good progress and demonstrating depth to their knowledge and understanding in mathematics.”
Writing has also improved and, in its overall report card, the school’s performance was marked as ‘good’ in one category and ‘satisfactory’ in four others.
Inspectors also found the children to be “courteous and well-behaved,” and praised the strategic vision of the head teacher, Simon Simpson, and deputy head teacher, Maria Seery.
