West Dunbartonshire drivers urged to take care on winter roads

MOTORISTS in West Dunbartonshire are being urged to gear up for winter in a bid to stay safe on the roads.

Darker nights and a drop in temperature create additional road hazards say local police, who have launched their annual Winter Safety Campaign.

Over the last few days, officers have been carrying out roadside checks to ensure vehicles are fit for winter conditions and encouraging drivers to enhance their skills to cope with dangerous road surfaces.

Road signs in vulnerable areas, such as schools and prominent crash locations, are also being examined to ensure they are clearly visible and well maintained.

Motorists are being advised to take into consideration other road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, especially as visibility can be severely reduced in the winter season.

Cyclists and pedestrians are also being reminded of their responsibility to ensure their safety by wearing high visibility and reflective clothing.
