AN internet romance ended in tears for a Helensburgh girl when her new love interest attacked her – and her mum.
Stewart Teese turned up for the date drunk on Buckfast and grabbed the girl in a headlock before punching her on the face.
When her mum tried to calm him down, 19-year-old Teese responded by kicking her in the face.
Last week, he appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court and admitted the two attacks in the town’s Columba Street on August 16 last year
Fiscal depute Lynn Jamieson said Teese and the victim had been in a relationship for around three weeks at the time, having met on the internet.
She added: “On August 16 last year, about 5pm, the complainer and the accused had arranged to meet outside the Station Bar in Helensburgh.
“The complainer saw the accused was heavily intoxicated at that time. She was unhappy about the accused’s demeanour and made off from the accused.
“At the same time, the complainer’s mother contacted her by mobile phone and she asked her to attend, which she did.
“They tried to ensure that the accused went home and directed him to the train station.
“The complainers went to their own car which was in Columba Street.”
As the woman retrieved her keys from her bag, she heard her daughter screaming and saw that Teese had her in a headlock.
The women managed to get Teese into the back of the car.
Ms Jamieson added: “As the complainer’s mother opened the car door to speak to him, he kicked out, striking her on the nose and mouth.
“The complainer went over and the accused punched out, striking her on the face.”
The girl suffered reddening to her face while her mother was left with two black eyes.
Roddy Boag, defending, said Teese, of Stirling Road, Glasgow, suffered from various health difficulties including cystic fibrosis and Klinefelter's syndrome, which caused behavioural problems.
Mr Boag said his client understood the offences were serious and had stayed out of trouble since the incident.
He added: “Mr Teese has been off drink for a month completely.”
Sheriff Bill Dunlop told Teese: “You do have your problems, but they won’t get any easier if you continue to drink a bottle of Buckfast when you are feeling down.”
Teese was put on probation for 18 months and ordered to pay each of his victims £250 compensation.
