Helensburgh town centre upgrade is good news for all

THE latest in a series of key projects aimed at improving the environment in Helensburgh has been completed.

Scottish Water recently finished an upgrade at Lomond Street in the town centre.

The last of the 10 projects, which amount in total to £5.5m, should be completed at Craigendoran Pier by the end of July.

Beach and bathing waters at East Bay – a notorious spot for debris – will be significantly cleaner following the work to reduce the frequency and level of sewage spills onto the beach and into the River Clyde.

Jackie Baillie MSP, who visited the site with local councillors and Scottish Water representatives, said: “The town has been in urgent need of serious investment for some time in the waste water infrastructure. This investment will improve the local environment for residents and visitors to Helensburgh.

“Tourism is a huge part of the economy of the town and having a modern, efficient waste water infrastructure will be of tremendous benefit.”
