SHOP owners in Helensburgh are backing a campaign to help recoup £70 MILLION in lost sales.
They claim that’s what out of town shopping costs retailers in the town every year.
And they have welcomed an initiative by the town’s community council to ‘Use It or Lose It’.
Those behind the ‘shop local’ bid hope it will encourage more people into the town centre – and bring a vital boost to businesses there.
A staggering 75 per cent on non-food and 50 per cent of food expenditure by Helensburgh residents is spent out of town.
The campaign aims to reduce that to 20 per cent and 50 per cent respectively, by convincing people to invest in the town’s own businesses.
