HELENSBURGH Rotary Club continued its fundraising efforts in the battle to eradicate polio worldwide at a folk concert in the Victoria Halls with well known band Clydebuilt .
The total is not yet known but president Jack Rudram, who introduced the concert, said: “We are so close to stamping out polio for good. A world without polio has been Rotary’s dream for many years and there are only four countries left to tackle.
“As long as one case of polio remains in the world, no child is safe from this deadly disease.
“We want to share in the legacy of wiping out a disease that has caused so much disability and death worldwide.
“This will be part of our club’s contribution to help Rotary International match a $100 million challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
“The resulting $200 million will directly support immunisation campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyse children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.”
