A MAN who put his hand up a woman’s skirt and touched her inappropriately has been locked up.
James Bell was sent to custody last week after being found guilty at trial of carrying out the assault.
The shocking incident happened in West Clyde Street, Helensburgh, on November 6, 2010.
Defence lawyer Douglas Thomson, representing the 28-year-old, formerly of Faslane, told the court it was a serious matter and that alcohol had played a part. He added: “This wasn’t, in any way at all, a pre-meditated incident.
“He accepts this was traumatic for the victim although his view is that there was no intention to cause her trauma.
“This is a case where we are dealing with a man who is not a danger to the public.”
Jailing Bell, now of Mains Terrace in Dundee, for four months, Sheriff Simon Pender said: “Assaulting a young woman by placing your hand up her skirt is a very serious matter. The matter is of such a serious nature that only custody is appropriate.”
