Dumbarton Primary’s charity drive for Yorkhill
KNOXLAND Primary School is delivering an early Christmas present to Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.
The Dumbarton school’s 293 pupils all played a part in earning £400 for the Glasgow charity with their special festive show last Wednesday.
The money was raised from ticket sales of their nativity play, Baboushka, Russia’s traditional Christmas story about the birth of Jesus.
The play was performed twice in front of sell-out audiences, and the proceeds donated to Yorkhill, because the school chose the foundation as its charity partner in August.
The funds will go towards the organisation’s ongoing efforts to provide the additional services and care that go a long way in helping to make a child’s stay on the wards as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
Mrs Siveen Tiernan, Knoxland’s deputy head teacher, said: “With pupils having attended The Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill, we know how hard the foundation works to ensure that families and children get the best care possible during their time there.
“This is our way of doing our bit this festive season, to help those children who may have to be in hospital over Christmas rather than at home and to support the foundation in making that stay as good as it can be.
“I very much hope that our efforts will encourage other schools to come on board to support the foundation.”
David Welch, head of fundraising, marketing and communications at Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, said: “The support from schools means a great deal to Yorkhill Children’s Foundation and to the sick children at Yorkhill Hospital.
“I am delighted that Knoxland Primary has not only raised money for us through their Christmas play but has taken us on as their charity partner for a full year.
“It’s really special to see children helping other children, especially as it was the pupils at Knoxland Primary who had the idea to fundraise for Yorkhill. Their support is vital.
“Thanks to everyone involved and I wish them all a very merry Christmas.”
