ALEXANDRIA biker chicks are all revved up for a mammoth ride to raise money for charity.
Motorbike-mad Laura Smith, 26, and Joanne MacGregor, 34, are taking part in the annual charity event Breast Way Round to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
A strong group of 100 motorcyclists, mainly female, will be riding over 300 miles around the West Coast of Scotland on the weekend of Friday, May 28.
Laura, a community addiction nurse, said: “I took part on the challenge a year ago because I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to meet other female bikers.
“But this year, I’m going to be doing it in memory of my gran. She passed away last November from cancer and I really miss her.
“Sadly we have also had two members pass away since Breast Way Round was started from cancer.
“The race is my way of helping other women like my gran.
“There will be a great atmosphere on the day and I can’t wait to get my bike on the road.”
The race starts at Kilmarnock Football Club and on the first night they will stay in Oban.
On the Saturday the bikers will ride to Aviemore, then Dumbarton and they will also get a police escort to George Square for the grand finale.
Joanne added: “I can’t wait for the buzz of it as this is the first year I’ve done the Breast Way Round.
“I only got my motorbike last year and I have been hooked on biking. I even got my husband to get a bike!
“I wanted to take part because it’s a great way to meet other female bikers.
“I’m so glad I got to meet Laura at a fundraising event.
“Before meeting we only ever went out riding with our husbands, now we can go out together.”
This is the third year of the Breast Way Round and last year they raised a total of £36,000.
But the fundraising riders are hoping to make £40,000 this year.
