Important council meeting switched to Dumbarton

AN important council meeting is being switched to Dumbarton next month so more parents can attend.

West Dunbartonshire Council provost Denis Agnew has agreed to hold the gathering to discuss the funding of a new Dumbarton Academy in the Garshake council HQ rather than Clydebank.

Provost Denis Agnew previously announced that the meeting would take place in Clydebank Town Hall, but has bowed to pressure from parents, as well as councillors David McBride and Jonathan McColl, who sent a joint letter calling for a switch to make it easier for local people to go along.

A council spokeswoman said: “Following a request from Dumbarton Academy’s parents’ representative, the venue for the special meeting to discuss the future of the academy has been changed. The meeting will now be held in the council chambers, Garshake Road, Dumbarton, on Thursday, August 6, at 6pm.

“Provost Agnew was pleased to change the venue making it more accessible for Dumbarton residents who wish to attend.”
