Bonhill man appeals to lady who left cash on the train

A BONHILL man is appealing to Lennox Herald readers to set his mind at ease after he spotted an elderly lady leaving a wad of cash on the train.

The woman boarded the train on May 22 at Dumbarton East between 1.30pm and 2.30pm with a load of money, but left it lying on her seat when she got off.

And since then the man, who handed the cash to the conductor, has been frantically trying to get information on whether the woman got her money back.

But he has come up against a brick wall as he claims First Scotrail have been denying him information due to the Data Protection Act.

He said: “I was travelling to Glasgow and then going on to Leeds. There was a lady sitting across from me with a considerable amount of money in her possession who got on at Dumbarton East.

“She was counting it and putting it into bags. I told her it was a silly thing to do in front of people.

“She got off at Partick and left the money. I didn’t have very much time when I got off between trains, so I handed it to the ticket collector.

“I have been trying to phone Scotrail. I just wanted to make sure the lady got her money back.

“The reply I got when I phoned is ‘it’s nothing to do with you’. They said it was because of the Data Protection Act.”

Do you know the woman who left her money on the train or are you that lady? If so please call Lorraine on 01389 742299 so we can let the man know.
