AN Alexandria thug who assaulted his ex-girlfriend has been jailed for six months.
Barry Rainey, of Mitchell Way, grabbed the girl by the hair and threw her to the floor at a flat in Graham Avenue, Clydebank, on August 13.
The 18-year-old also kicked a police officer when being arrested for the disturbance in the early hours of the following morning.
Rainey gained entry to his ex-girlfriend’s close by pretending to be a neighbour on the intercom. He then knocked on her door and soon lost the plot.
Fiscal depute Diane McConnell explained: “The accused said he was there to apologise for an earlier incident, but he grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the floor.
“He then pulled her to her feet and threw her back down on the floor again.
“There was some comment made by him along the lines, ‘this is because you did this to me’.
“Police attended and could see the complainer was very, very frightened. She had some minor injuries but refused treatment.”
Rainey was asleep in bed when police caught up with him. After being woken up and handcuffed in relation to the assault, he kicked one of the policemen on the leg.
Rainey’s defence lawyer admitted his client was a “young man with a very serious record”.
He said: “He went there, under the influence of drink, with the intention of words of reconciliation following an argument.”
The lawyer explained that Rainey realised a friend was in the house with his ex girlfriend, and he “felt betrayed and lost control”.
