Woman dies after being struck by car in Helensburgh's Co-op car park

AN elderly woman has died after being struck by a car in the car park of a Helensburgh supermarket.

Police were called to the Sinclair Street store at around midday on Tuesday.

When they arrived, it appeared that the elderly woman came out of the store carrying shopping bags and was in the car park’s turning area when she placed her bags on the ground and bent over them, she was then struck by a vehicle.

The woman was taken to Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital but sadly died on Wednesday.

The driver of the car was uninjured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

Constable Brian McNab of the Road Policing Department at Dumbarton said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the car park of the Co-op Supermarket in Sinclair Street, Helensburgh around midday on Tuesday and either witnessed the incident take place or who has information that may assist my enquiries to contact the Road Policing Department at Dumbarton on 01389 822041."
