Troops on parade in Dumbarton

PLANS for a homecoming parade by soldiers through the streets of Dumbarton have been given the green light.

Troops from the 5th Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders will mark their return from a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan with a march through the town.

The December 11 parade was approved at West Dunbartonshire’s licensing committee last week.

The regiment was granted the freedom of Dumbarton in 1963.
